Getting the most out of this site

There is now glossary capability in God Versus Religion. This guide helps you unlock deeper meaning in each article by connecting key terms to their biblical and relational roots.

It’s minimal right now, since everything here’s new. But it will grow as new things are written and old ones are moved over.

Using the GvR glossary

The glossary is designed to help you pause and explore key biblical and theological terms without breaking the flow of reading. Each glossary entry provides context, definitions, and reflections that deepen understanding.

🔍 How Glossary Terms Appear

  • Visual cues: Glossary terms are styled with a subtle underline and color shift, so they stand out without distracting. The color, underline, and icon in the following example indicate the word has a glossary entry.
For example, clicking on the word perseverance in this sentence will take you to the glossary entry for perseverance:
    • Hope to see you in the next segment of the Ephesus letter about hard work and perseverance, but …
  • Icon marker: A small ⁂ asterism follows each glossary term. This traditional symbol signals that the word has a deeper reference.
  • Accessibility: Both visual styling and ARIA labels ensure that glossary terms are discoverable by all viewers, including those using screen readers.

📑 What Happens When You Hover or Click on a Glossary Term

  • When you encounter a glossary term in the text, you’ll notice it is styled with an underline, the color shift, and the ⁂ marker. These cues signal that the word has a deeper reference.
  • Tooltip appearance: Hovering over a glossary term opens a tooltip. The tooltip displays the definition in black text on a light gray background. The background is fully opaque, so the tooltip stands out from the page. If the tooltip ends in an ellipsis (…) that means there’s more content available. To see it, just click on the tooltip to open it in anew tab in your browser.
  • Readability: While the tooltip is designed to be clear, some of you may still find the contrast and/or the overlay challenging. For this reason, clicking the term will always open the full glossary entry in its own window, where the content is easier to read and explore.
  • Interaction:
    • Hover: Quick view of the definition in the tooltip.
    • Click: Opens the dedicated glossary page with expanded context, cross‑references, and reflections.
  • This dual structure ensures that you can choose between a quick glance or a deeper dive, depending on your needs.
  • This layered structure allows you to move seamlessly between the main text and supporting study material.

🧩 Why This Structure Matters

  • Clarity: You don’t have to guess which words carry theological weight — the cues make them easy to spot.
  • Consistency: Every glossary term is marked the same way, so once you learn the pattern, you’ll never miss one.
  • Depth: The glossary is not just definitions; it’s a scaffold for reflection, linking terms across posts and series.
